Going Natural With Tom’s of Maine

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Tom’s of Maine. All opinions are 100% mine.

Going Natural With Tom's of Maine

Many of you know me as the Savvy Naturalista and all the natural skin care products that I enjoy making (I’m a DIY addicted). I’m also a big natural skin care product junkie! I know many of you see the reviews I do for cruelty free and all natural products on Instagram, Youtube and of course the blog! I never really told you Savvy Naturalista’s how I transition from conventional to natural products. It all started with an allergic reaction to a skin care product I was using. I had been using this lotion (it will remain nameless) for a few months and never noticed anything going on with my skin. Well one day that all changed for me when I started constantly itching the left side of my thigh non-stop. I didn’t think anything of it until I had a rash the size of pancake covering my thigh. At first I thought it was eczema, so I begin to use thick creams (including the lotion that was causing my reaction) thinking they would help the rash.

Well the creams and lotion just wasn’t helping my rash on my thigh. Well eventually I went to the doctor and was prescribed a cream that would help clear up the rash after a few weeks ( the doctor never told me what was wrong, he thought it was a reaction to a bug bite). To be honest I was trying to fix the problem myself without doctor intervention, but Josh thought it was time for me to go to the Doctor so I went. Well once the rash left I went back to using the same lotion with the heavy fragrance. Well the rash came back and there were no bugs of any kind in our home (we checked), so I knew it had to be something else. Going Natural With Tom's of Maine

Lucky for me the lotion I was using had a heavy fragrance that would make me pretty light headed at times and I knew this wasn’t normal. Well after a lot of research (mainly google) I realized most if not all my conventional products I was using contained formaldehyde. Which in most cases can cause an allergic reaction (which I experienced)  to any part of the body including your mouth.

Well the first thing I tossed out was that lotion and the second was my toothpaste. I just didn’t want to cause that type of reaction in my mouth since I love to eat. I wasn’t about to take that risk. Let me tell you when I started to look at major stores for natural toothpaste and lotion. It was pretty hard finding any stores that carried natural products. Well through word a mouth and a quick walk around the block I found that my local Sprouts carries all sorts of natural products that are locally based and affordable. I decided to go with Tom’s of Maine because all the reviews I read were not only great, but Tom’s of Maine products were affordable and cruelty free. I have been a loyal customer with Tom’s of Maine ever since and I’m in love with their new toothpaste that can only be found at Sprouts.

This toothpaste is SLS free, which is a major deal since most shampoos and soap carry this ingredient which can cause allergic reactions as well. I am very happy Tom’s of Maine is still a natural brand that cares about their consumers, but they also keep innovating their natural products.
