Trick or Treat Stones

Going to a Halloween party? Do you have any coworkers you want to trick; or maybe give your lover a special treat this Halloween? I have the perfect little stones for you; Trick or Treat stones to be exact! This is a neat little gift your family and friends will love. Have you heard of treasure stones? Well those are for kids! These stones are for kids and adults who you really want to surprise ( I know I have a few). They are fashionable and if your costume requires a basket or a pouch you will enjoy hiding these stones in it, and passing them out when the time is right.

Don’t forget to keep your candy covered when you put them in the stones. I didn’t do that on the first three stones. Josh finally decided to help out; “Who is going to eat dirty candy Shundara!?” Well he had a point!

If you decide to play little tricks with these stones. May I recommend scary fuzzy spiders, bloody looking fingers, or some gooey slimy faux worms. That will defiantly send chills down the back of anyone you know as soon as they crack open one of these stones. Once they are open you will hear the screams of terror or maybe excitement with these trick or treat stones.

Trick or Treat Stones Recipe: 

1 cup flour
1 cup dried coffee grounds (I dried mine out in the oven)
1/2 cup salt
1/4 cup sand
3/4 cup water
Scary spiders, slimy worms, and sweet treats (optional)
Glitter
Glue (I used mod podge)
1 Styrofoam brush
1 can acrylic spray (optional)

Recipe Directions: In a large bowl place dry ingredients and stir until they are mixed together; slowly add water to the dry ingredients mixing with your hands as you pour the water (you may not need all the water). The dough should form into balls easily without crumbling; if it does not add more water.

There are two options you can use to stuff your tricks or treats into the stone dough. You can flatten the dough out and then place it in the middle and form a ball around your treats; or you can form the stones into balls, poke a hole in the ball and stuff your tricks through the hole.

Once all you’re trick or treat stones are done let them sit and dry. Drying time can take 2-3 days depending on your climate. I live in a dry climate so mine did not take too long. I let mine dry overnight and they were ready the next morning.

Now it’s time to glitter your stones, take your paint or Styrofoam brush and dip into your glue, coat the glue all over the stones (I did one stone at a time).  Sprinkle glitter all over your stones covering the entire stone with glitter. Let the stones dry, once they are done drying spray with an acrylic spray.

I made about 8-10 medium stones depending on your tricks and treats you may want to double up the ingredients. Store your stones somewhere dry where they will not be disturbed.

When the big day arrives let the tricks or treats excite your guest or the kids who will open them when they get home.
