Green Tea Leaf Cold Process Soap

Green Tea Leaf Cold Process Soap is made with real green tea leaves you make in just minutes!  The perfect beginner soap tutorial anyone can make.  

I have been looking forward to making a green tea soap with pure green tea leaves and not matcha powder. Many of you know I am a huge fan of using green tea powder in many skin care recipes (super biased), but I decided to give green tea leaves a try. I used store bought green tea and let it sit overnight in distilled water. You could boil the green tea bags and let it sit, but I decided against that method and just let them sit in water overnight. I got the same benefits and did not need to boil the tea.  

Your soap will come out looking a light brown. No, your soap will not look GREEN so you can use mica if you would like your soap to look green color. Be careful with adding tea to the top of the soap. I notice the soap had a not look appealing once I added tea leaves to the top. Green Tea Leaf Cold Process Soap Recipe:   

6.50 oz. Shortening (I used soybean)  

5.60 oz lard 

2.00 oz peanut oil  

5.00 oz. Olive oil      

2.47 oz. Lye   

6.30 oz. Distilled water  

3-5 Green Tea bags  

1-3 tsps. Green Mica (more maybe needed) 

1-2 tbsps. Peanut oil  

1.25 oz Orange Essential oil   

 Green Tea Cold Process Soap Recipe Directions:   

1. In a small bowl add five green tea bags and let sit in distilled water over night. Other option you can boil the tea bags and steep until cool.  
2. Slowly add lye to green tea and gently stir until lye has completely dissolved and cooled. Set aside  
3. In another container add peanut oil and green mica, mix and set aside.    
4. In a microwave safe container melt shortening and olive oil until dissolved in the microwave for about 3 minutes. I did this in 40 second intervals. Oils should be 120-130 degrees.  
5. Once the lye water and the oils have cooled to 120-130 degrees (this temperature is perfect for the oils as well) add the lye water to the oils and stick blend the mixture to a thin trace. You may need to blend the mixture a bit longer for this process.  
6. Add essential oil and stick blend to medium trace (this process took me a bit longer than usual).   
7. Fold in mica mixture until the soap batter becomes green.  
8. Pour soap in soap mold and let sit for 1-3 days or until soap has become hard.
